This year we decided to spoil ourselves a bit by going to the mountains and staying in a 5 star hotel! I have been begging Jörn to go to the Engadin (N-gah-dean)Valley (Oberengadin) since we have never been there.
We stayed at the Hotel Castell in Zuoz. This place has a great location, up just enough that you look down into the valley below. The rooms were designed by two different firms, we stayed in a room designed by a company from Amsterdam.
The staff was really nice and very helpful, which they should be in the hospitality industry but these people seemed like they really enjoyed their job. The owners were also around and starting up conversations with us at breakfast and/or dinner. As we booked just one week before their winter season began, it really felt like we had the whole hotel to ourselves.
I made a little video to show our two snowshoe hikes and a little bit of the Engadin Valley.
What we use for winter hiking and snowshoeing:
Northface 3 season jackets
Buff Merino Wool - I have two of these!

Beautiful, easy, snowshoe hike from Oberalppass to Andermatt, Switzerland
Great snow shoe hike to explore the Jura mountains. This place has something for everyone, downhill skiing for all ages, cross-country skiing and winter hiking.
Our first multi-day bike tour on our Tout Terrian touring bikes. We learned a lot of lessons and had a great time along the way.
Beautiful 1 day hike accessible from most of northern Switzerland, Engelberg to Melchsee-Frutt.
A great 4 hour hike that provides some great views into the Black Forrest and sometimes to the Alps!
Here is a plan for what to do in Switzerland if you only have a long weekend, day 3 of 3.

A great way to start the winter season! We headed down south to get higher and colder... for snow!
